JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Worcester Polytechnic Institute is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Technician to join our team. The candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle development of a line-following mobile robot capable of carrying a UAV. This involves designing, fabricating, assembling, testing, and operating the robot, as well as documenting all processes and results. Occasional travel within the United States for demonstrations and presentations will be required. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong background in robotics, engineering, and a passion for innovation.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop a mobile, line-following robot capable of carrying a UAV.
- Manage the entire lifecycle of the robot, from initial concept through design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and operation.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including detailed design documents, assembly instructions, test plans, and operation manuals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product requirements and quality standards are met.
- Travel occasionally within the US to demonstrate and present the robot.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the robot's performance and operation.
- Stay abreast of advancements in robotics and apply them where applicable.
- Ensure all activities are compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing, building, and testing robotic systems.
- Proficiency with robotics hardware, including sensors and actuators.
- Strong experience in mobile robotic systems and UAVs.
- Familiarity with line-following robotic systems.
- Excellent knowledge of CAD software for design and simulation.
- Familiarity with programming languages like Python, C++, or ROS.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise documentation and present complex information to various audiences.
- Must be a US citizen due to the involvement with export-controlled technologies.
- Must be able to travel occasionally within the US.
