Position Announcement

The Department of Applied Engineering and Transportation Technologies (www.uvu.edu/auto) invites applications for a one-year lecturer position in Transportation Technologies to begin August 2024.

The transportation technologies lecturer teaches undergraduate courses in one or more of these areas: basic and advanced automotive and engine repair, electric vehicles, or hybrid vehicles, etc. The faculty member attends and participates in department meetings and may serve on department committees related to their area of expertise and teaching.

The department offers degrees in transportation technologies, collision repair, diesel mechanics, automation, and electrical technology.

The department will accept all qualified applications but is particularly interested in applicants with experience in automotive technologies and emerging automotive technology systems.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
  • Plans, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Serves the department by attending departmental meetings and serving on department committees related to their area of expertise and teaching.


Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant bachelor's degree.
  • At least one year of relevant industry experience.
  • At least one ASE Certification

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least five years of relevant industry experience.
  • ASE Certifications A1-A9, G1, L1, L3, L4, C1, F1

    Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent talking, hearing, sitting, walking, and standing.
  • Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer.

    Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of ASE certifications and approved repair techniques.
  • Knowledge through industry experience of automotive and transportation systems.
  • Knowledge of and expertise in current technology trends in transportation education, (ADAS)
  • Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle systems.
  • Skills and experience in technical repairs
  • Skills in repair of advanced braking systems (regenerative braking), electric drive train, engine repair and diagnostics, steering and suspension, advanced electrical systems, alternative fuel vehicles, hybrid, electric vehicles, diagnostics of fuel management systems and tunning.
  • Skills in electrical diagnostics and diagnostics of advanced electrical systems with transportation vehicles
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Effective verbal and technical written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum and work on the development of new curriculum.
