Position Announcement
The Department of Applied Engineering and Transportation Technologies (www.uvu.edu/auto) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Transportation Technologies to begin August 2025.
The transportation technologies faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses in one or more of transportation and automotive engineering technology areas: autonomous, semiautonomous, urban air mobility, EV and hybrid technology, and advanced technologies. Examples of courses include the following: energy storage, failure analysis and material science, alt fuels (hydrogen technology), compliance, local laws and regulations, electric vehicles, transportation management, smart systems and intelligent management, transportation infrastructure and vehicle dynamics and design.
The faculty member engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty provides service at the department, college, and university levels and in professional organizations.

The department offers a BAS Transportation Technologies and associate degrees in automotive technology and collision repair technology. The department will accept all qualified applications but is particularly interested in applicants with experience in automotive engineering technologies and emerging transportation engineering technology systems.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
- Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant bachelor's degree.
- At least one year of relevant industry experience.
- At least one ASE Certification.
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree.
- At least two years of relevant industry experience.
- Transportation or engineering certificate.
- Automotive Engineering or Transportation engineering experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of industry certifications and approved repair techniques.
- Knowledge through industry experience of transportation systems.
- Knowledge of and expertise in current technology trends in transportation education, (ADAS).
- Knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicle systems.
- Knowledge of autonomous and semiautonomous vehicle technologies.
- Skills and experience in technical repairs.
- Skills or understanding of advanced braking systems (regenerative braking), electric drive train, engine repair and diagnostics, steering and suspension, advanced electrical systems, alternative fuel vehicles, hybrid, electric vehicles, diagnostics of fuel management systems and tuning.
- Skills in transportation systems and management.
- Skills in electrical diagnostics and diagnostics of advanced electrical systems with transportation vehicles.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong program coordination skills.
- Effective verbal and technical written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
- Ability to work independently.
